Beautifully wrenching story with a the patented Ina twist at the end. I can see how it won an award. We cringe at the characters, hoping we will never know such sorrow, but realizing we will, the honest reader exposes their faults in not wanting to be there.

Thank you so much! I did actually cringe as I wrote this, visualising it from both a writerly and readerly perspective simultaneously. Yes, I do think it’s one of those stories that makes the reader question their response to the situation. I certainly found myself doing so alongside the character.
